Dr Wang Jian serves as the chief technology officer at Alibaba and is the founder of its cloud platform, which currently ranks third globally among public cloud providers and hold the top position in Asia. Additionally, he plays a key role as the chief architect of Apsara, Alibaba Cloud’s computing foundation, and takes the lead in proposing the industrial model of utilising computing as a public service.

 

Dr Wang is the prime mover behind Hangzhou City Brain. In 2016, he pioneered the nonprofit City Brain initiative, leading the development of a new digital infrastructure for sustainable “smart” cities as his personal effort and was the architect of Hangzhou City Brain. Furthermore, Dr Wang established the Yunqi Academy of Engineering, a private nonprofit research institute with a focus on scientific research for City Brain. Alongside this, he also founded the Yunqi Science and Technology Innovation Foundation, a philanthropic private foundation that operates the free 2050 museum. The museum envisions the future through technology innovation and organizes the annual 2050 event every April, promoting the vision of science and technology uniting people.

 

Dr Wang is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and currently resides in Hangzhou, China.
